Boxes and Sketches Class 5 Mathematics NCERT Solutions

Box

👉A box is a square or rectangular container to contain solid objects.

👉A box has a lid or covering. 

👉Boxes without a lid are called as open boxes and boxes having a lid are called as closed boxes.

Most of the boxes we use are of shapes like cubes or cuboids. Some boxes are of the shapes like cone , cylinder, spherical etc.

For example : 

Sweet boxes ,medicine boxes, pencil boxes etc.

Cuboid

👉A cuboid is a box shaped  three- dimensional object.

👉Six rectangular faces join together like a box. 

👉It has 6 rectangular faces, 12 edges and 8 corners.

For example :

Brick , Medicine box, building, book, notebook etc.

Cube

👉A cube is a box shaped three dimensional object bounded by six square faces.

👉Six square faces join together like a box.

👉It has 6 rectangular faces, 12 edges and 8 corners.


For example

Ice cubes, Ludo dice, Rubik's cube, Barfi sweet , Sugar cubes etc.

Open cube

👉A cube is said to be open when it has not a lid to cover.

👉An open cube has 5 faces , 12 edges and 8 corners.


Shapes that Fold into a Cube

1. Draw any two shapes which will be folded into open cubes.

Floor Maps

1. What is a floor map?

Ans:

Floor map is a type of drawing that shows the lay out of a building or room from above.

  • It is designed first before making a house or building.
  • It is based on a scale.
  • It shows relation between different rooms.

2. Look at the floor map and answer the following questions.

 


a ) In which direction the front side of the house is there?

Ans: The front side of the house is to the south direction.

b ) How many windows are there all together?

Ans: There are 4 windows in the house.

c ) How many doors are there in the house?

Ans: There is one door in the house.

Deep Drawings

1. What is a deep drawing?

Ans: The three-dimensional drawing of a house or building is called as deep drawing.

Through deep drawing we can make out

  • how the house really looks like.
  • How high is the house and its windows, doors etc.
  • It shows the length, width and height of a house.

Draw a deep drawing for the given floor map.
